WTC Scoreboard Latest Update: Australia beat India by nine wickets to enter the World Test Championship final after the third Test in Indore on Friday.
India's final ICC Test World Cup qualifier Australia cruised to a nine-wicket victory in the third Border-Gavaskar Test in Indore on Friday.
Australia, led by Steve Smith in the absence of regular batsman Pat Cummins, qualified for the WTC final with their 11th win in 18 matches in the 2021-23 championship cycle.
Meanwhile, India's percentage points (PCT) dropped from 64.06 to 60.29 and lost for the fifth time in 17 matches in the 2021-23 WTC cycle.
India's WTC Qualifying Scenario: India will now have to win the last match of the tournament to qualify for the finals without relying on the results of Sri Lanka - the only team left in June's summit clash at England's Oval.
A win in Ahmedabad would allow Rohit Sharma's men to finish with 62.5 per cent. That will be enough to stave off the threat of Sri Lanka, who can push themselves to a good 61.11 PCT during the tour of New Zealand starting on March 9.
The best series for India: beat Australia 3-1 to finish with 135 points and 62.5 pct.
Worst run for India: Draw Australia 2-2, finish with 123 points and 56.94 pct.
How come India didn't qualify for the WTC finals?
With a 2-2 or 2-1 win against Australia, India can finish with a maximum of 127 points and 58.79 PCT. In such a scenario, Sri Lanka can beat New Zealand 2-0 and finish with 61.11 pct, joining India and joining Australia in the final.
