The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League starts with a dazzling opening ceremony.




The eighth season of the Pakistan Super League officially launched with a grand opening ceremony at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday.





The event was filled with spectacular performances by various artists, including a performance of the PSL 8 anthem by Abdullah Siddiqui, Asim Azhar, Faris Shafi, and Shae Gill. Additionally, music composer Sahir Ali Bagga and singer Aima Baig also took the stage, further adding to the already impressive lineup.





During the ceremony, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Managing Committee Chairman Najam Sethi announced that Quetta and Peshawar will also host PSL matches in 2024. He highlighted the success of the PSL as an international brand and noted that several foreign and local players are making their debuts this year. Sethi also acknowledged the impact the tournament has had on the national side, citing players such as Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Hasan Ali as examples.





The tournament opener will take place between the 2021 winners, the Multan Sultans, and the defending champions, the Lahore Qalandars. The final and closing ceremony will occur on March 19th in Lahore, which will also host the playoffs. The winning team will be awarded the Supernova Trophy, along with a prize of 120 crore rupees, while the runners-up will receive a check of 48 crore rupees.





Lahore Qalandars will aim to become the first team to win back-to-back titles, while Islamabad United will attempt to become the most successful team by winning the trophy three times. Rawalpindi will host 11 matches, while Karachi and Lahore will host nine matches each. Multan will have five home matches. Afternoon matches will start at 2 PM local time, and evening matches in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi will start at 7 PM. The evening matches in Multan will start at 6:00 PM, except for the tournament opener, which will start at 8:00 PM.
