Serbia secures final berth in Basketball World Cup lineup

Serbia's victory in Belgrade eliminated Belgium, the last group that still has a chance of qualifying.
The field for the Basketball World Cup has been filled, and Serbia has finished in this summer's 32-team tournament.
Serbia defeated Great Britain 101-83 on Monday. The victory means two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets will have the opportunity to play in the World Cup in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia this summer. In the World Cup, most teams will use the NBA players they can. The US has used the G League and international players almost exclusively in qualifying, but will be on the NBA roster for this summer's tournament. The lowest ranked teams in the field are four of the five African qualifiers: 43rd Piliori Coast, 55th Egypt, 63rd South Sudan and 66th Cape Verde.
There are 23 teams participating in the 2019 World Cup and will be participating again in this year's event, led by the United States and Brazil - the only countries that have appeared in 19 editions of the tournament. Spain has been in each of the last 11 World Cups. Puerto Rico has been in each of the last 10.

The 19 returning countries from 2019 are: Angola, New Zealand, France, Greece, Australia, Lithuania, Serbia, Iran, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Montenegro, Jordan, Venezuela, Japan, Piliori Coast, Germany, China, Italy and Canada .
Finland, Slovenia, Egypt and Mexico return to the field after last qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Lebanon returns after the last time in 2010.
These nine countries participated in the 2019 tournament and will not return this summer: Argentina, South Korea, Turkey, Senegal, Nigeria, Tunisia, Poland, Czech Republic and Russia. Last year, FIBA banned Russian teams and officials from competition in response to the Ukrainian state's attacks.
The group stage - eight teams from four groups - will take place from August 25 to August 30. The second round will take place from August 31 to September 4. The quarter finals will be held on September 5 and 6. The grand final will be held on September 8. , and the championship and third place game in Tasikmalaya on September 10. That's two weeks before NBA training camp opens, barring this summer's lockout.
Each country will be drawn into an open group of four groups on April 29. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round.

Slovenia and Japan will play group games in Okinawa, Japan. Canada will play its group games in Jakarta, Indonesia. All teams will meet opponents and other teams that have not yet known the group stage in the match on April 29.
The World Cup will be the way for seven teams to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024. Two of them will come from America, two from Europe, one from Africa, and one from Asia and Oceania.
This summer's qualifiers will determine the other five Olympic spots, and FIBA will invite 40 countries to compete for those spots.
There are 39 countries that have received invitations: Argentina, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cameroon, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Congo, Cuba, Czech Republic, Estonia, Great Britain, Guinea, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Israel , Kazakhstan, Korea, Mali, Netherlands, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, Uruguay and Virgin Islands. Croatia's 40th place is likely to go, FIBA's final decision on April 28.
